SUMMARY:ADESTE+ Summer School online
DESCRIPTION:FROM AUDIENCE TO PEOPLEA journey for changemaker \n18 hours from September 29th to October 20th \nDeadline for applications is 1st September. Results by 7th September. \n‘Change’ and ‘audience’\, or better said ‘people’\, have been two key concepts guiding us through the project. Our initial assumption was that any audience development strategy\, to be successful\, should be implemented by the whole organisation\, involving different departments\, and that meant finding new ways to work together. Thus\, we started experimenting and mixing change management theories\, audience development approaches and human centred design tools. We came up with a process to support professionals and institutions to design audience centred cultural experiences and\, at the same time\, develop new forms of internal collaboration\, bringing change in small steps.  Then\, the pandemic came along and we all realized that change was not just an option anymore\, it became something we all needed to embrace. That’s why we’re more willing than ever to share our methodology\, testing it with as many professionals as possible and keep on learning all together. \nOur last Summer School should have taken place in Turin\, Italy\, but considering the ongoing COVID emergency we opted for an online edition\, so as to facilitate a larger and more diverse participation across Europe. Nonetheless we want this to represent an opportunity for all participants to really dive deep into the process and tools that we’ve developed\, offering the possibility for a hands-on exploration. Discover the Summer School experience that we design for you and send your application. We can’t wait to welcome you on board our A+ community! \nThere is no participation fee. APPLICATIONS here. \nThe programme is articulated in 6 online sessions (3 hours each): \n\nWelcome to ADESTE+ Community → 29th September\, 10-13 CEST\n\nHow can we change the way we work within our organization to bring people at the centre of our programming and projects? In this session\, we’ll share our answers to this question and introduce you to the process we developed. \n\nPeople beyond audiences → 5th October\, 10-13 CEST\n\nDeveloping a people centre perspective is much more than attracting new audiences: it’s about empathy\, it’s about embracing different points of view and creating a real connection with the people we want to engage with. In this session\, we’ll share some simple tools and tips to better understand your communities. \n\nReframe the challenge → 6th October\, 10-13 CEST\n\nPutting yourself in other people’s shoes opens up new perspectives and enables you to rethink your daily job and the challenges you’re trying to tackle. In this session\, we’ll guide you through all the data and insights you collected to understand how they can help you reframe your goals. \n\nUnlock creativity → 12th October\, 10-13 CEST\n\nWe’re used to solving problems everyday and too often we miss the opportunity to unlock the creative potential in our teams\, which is essential to come up with new and innovative solutions. In this session\, we’ll push you out of the comfort zone\, where the magic begins. \n\nPrototype your ideas → 13th October\, 10-13 CEST\n\nThey say “prototypes slow you down to speed you up”. In an accelerating world we think it’s important to experiment and collect datas continuously\, so as to ground our projects in the real world and embed ongoing learnings. In this session\, we’ll understand how to develop low and high fidelity prototypes for our ideas. \n\nLet’s pitch! → 20th October\, 10-13 CEST\n\nThe end of our journey! In this session\, each team will pitch the ideas they developed to answer the challenges posed by each case study. It will be the chance to share our common learning and reflect on how we could embed them in our professional life. \nMore information: https://www.adesteplus.eu/call-for-participants-new-online-summer-school-from-audience-to-people-a-journey-for-changemaker/ \n  \n

SUMMARY:#AdesteWaterfall with the Audience Agency on July 22
DESCRIPTION:Over the last few years\, several partner organisations have been working on a sequence of European projects which have aimed to explore how cultural organisations can be more audience–centred. An especially important ambition has involved going beyond short term initiatives to elicit longer-term change. \nBuilding on elements derived from Design Thinking and using action research projects developed through the Adeste partnership\, we have arrived at a process called Audience Centred Experience Design. This model encourages cultural organisations to consider their audiences and organisations in more fundamental ways. \nIn this webinar\, we will introduce you to some of these principles and show how they might be applied to your work. The webinar is structured with an online presentation of the process\, methodology and case-studies\, followed by an opportunity to meet and talk in smaller groups in online breakout rooms. \nPresented by The Audience Agency in the UK and featuring a Case Study from Norrebro Theatre in Copenhagen\, Denmark this webinar is suitable for anyone leading change and/or audience strategy in a cultural organisation.

SUMMARY:Summer School · 5th module: "How to bring change step by step? And learning from them every time?" (Experiment)
DESCRIPTION:Change is needed to solve a problem or to tackle our challenges. But challenges are evolving fast and we need to develop flexible and adaptable solutions for our organisations. Furthermore\, there are a lot of forces driving against change. How to bring change step by step\, validate our assumption and test small scale experiences\, in order to be more effective and “gentle/smooth” at the same time? SUMMARY:Summer School · 3rd module: "Where can we find allies for change? For whom should we need to change?" (Listen)
DESCRIPTION:Allies for change could be everywhere: in our colleagues\, sometimes in our bosses or stakeholders\, certainly in our audiences. But we have to learn to listen\, to develop empathy\, to understand other points of views. Putting ourselves in other people shoes could guide us towards the direction of (which) change we need; a deeper understanding of others needs and perspective is essential to develop alliances. Because change cannot happen if we’re alone. \n\n\n\n\n10:00 – 10:45 \n\nMasterclass session\n\n\n\n10:55 – 12:15 \n\nTools session: A+ lead team III\n\n\n\n12:25 – 13:00 \n\nCase studies

SUMMARY:Summer School · 2nd module: "Are we ready for change? What pressures (external and internal) are we under?" (Unfreeze)
DESCRIPTION:Only few weeks ago all the changes seemed to take a lot of time and building paths that will bring to it. But\, the sudden crisis has showed that change is not only possible\, but also necessary. Though unwanted with severe consequences\, we can look at it as a possibility to be embraced. What are the new and pressing challenges brought about by the new scenarios? Can we just afford to go back to what we did before this crisis? And what are the main internal obstacles for organisational change? Through the session we will reflect on change barriers and how to deal with them. \n\n\n\n\n10:00 – 10:45 \n\nMasterclass session:\n\n\n\n10:55 – 12:15 \n\nTools session: A+ lead team II\n\n\n\n12:25 – 13:00 \n\nCase studies: ADESTE Norrebro Teater

SUMMARY:European Conference 2020 · 5th episode: "Tempestuous times - the crisis - recovery and change"
DESCRIPTION:Panellists: Nico Carpentier\, Richard Evans\, Arundhati Ghosh\, Olga Wysocka. Chair: Inês Bettencourt da Câmara. Presenters: Melissa Dibble\, Søren Friis Møller\, Marcin Poprawski.\nThis session looks at what will happen when we open our doors and step back into the world. It looks at what could be the role of culture in our new lives and what we have learnt or could learn from this pandemic moment. Where do our past and current experiences meet? What is yet to be clarified? And what strategic foresight can we bring to our decision making processes? When we think about cultural events or audience development\, we focus primarily on the social dynamics of physical encounters. Recent circumstances have shown us that alternatives exist. How do we deal with the fearful environment of the new normal and turn this into a new optimistic vision. This final session looks at what new knowledge we have acquired\, what additional value it has added and in light of this\, the different strategies needed to encourage participation\, engagement and audience development. \nRegistration here (registration deadline 24/9/2020). \n\n\n\n\n14:00 – 15:20 \n\nPanel session\n\n\n\n15:30 – 16:30 \n\nWorkLab session\n\n\n\n16:40 – 17:00 \n\nWrap-up & Conclusions\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Summer School · 1st module: "Why do we need to change? What do audiences have to do with that?"
DESCRIPTION:In the past decade we are more and more confronted with the demands to include audience more actively in the work of our cultural organisations and institutions. Thus ADESTE+ partners have worked on developing strategies that would go beyond usual approaches to the audience and engage whole organisation in this work since it is a kind of work that demands more perceptive attention of all the segments of our organisaions. In order to transfer our experiences\, the session Why do we need change? participants will be presented with the ADESTE+ approach to audience development and change. \n\n\n\n\nSeptember 21rd\n\n\n\n\n14:00 – 15:00 \n\nEuropean Conference – 4th episode\nPanel session\n\n\n\n15:30 – 16:30 \n\nEuropean Conference – 4th episode\nWorkLab session\n\n\n\n16:40 – 17:00 \n\nEuropean Conference – 4th episode\nWrap-up & Conclusions\n\n\n\nSeptember 23rd\n\n\n\n\n10:00 – 10:15 \n\nSummer School welcome session\n\n\n\n10:15 – 11:00 \n\nMasterclass session: ADESTE+ partners\n\n\n\n11:10 – 13:00 \n\nTools session: A+ lead team I

SUMMARY:European Conference · 4th episode: "Rethinking participation strategically"
DESCRIPTION:Panellists: Lise Korsgaard\, Chiara Organtini\, Ben Walmsley\, Daniel Wetzel.\nChair: Jonathan Goodacre.\nPresenters: Jeannette Ehlers\, Matteo Lanfranchi\, WochenKlausur.\nThis session looks at how participation and engagement in culture is being affected by the new world of crisis and social distancing and how\, as cultural professionals\, we should respond. At a time when artists and audiences have found new ways to relate to each other\, we will look at new modes of engagement\, expression and participation. On the other hand\, it is clear that digital\, online communication is not a panacea for all our problems. There are those who cannot or do not want to participate in this way and in addition\, the aesthetic experience of culture in a physical\, shared space is one of its most valued aspects. Participation\, engagement and audience development have been a focus of experimentation for different artistic and cultural practices\, as well as within several managerial approaches. We aim to explore them\, search for the creative potential in their overlapping\, and see what kind of insight and inspiration these processes can offer us.  We’ll explore these issues with the invited speakers\, and then follow this discussion with a virtual session of open questions. \n\n\n\n\n14:00 – 15:20 \n\nPanel session\n\n\n\n15:30 – 16:30 \n\nWorkLab session\n\n\n\n16:40 – 17:00 \n\nWrap-up & Conclusions\n\n\n\n  \nRegistration mode here. SUMMARY:European Conference · 3rd episode: "The cultural institution – what needs to change?"
DESCRIPTION:Panellists: Teodor Celakoski\, Félix Dupin-Meynard\, Victoria Durrer.\nChair: Dea Vidović.\nPresenter: Christian Jull Wendell (Institute for X\, Denmark) and Janja Sesar (Pogon).\nIn the discussion on balance between elitism and cultural democracy we tackled the question of excellence and managerialism which is a dominant principle in which cultural institutions are run nowadays. It seems through many examples that none of the modes has proved sufficient to address both needs entangled in the friction of the two. For this reason\, we wish to continue the discussion on the question of governance and is it possible to imagine different kinds of governance in institutions and beyond that would provide a different answer to this questions. What can we do to change the way in which institutions operate now? What is needed to make them more open? How can we open them? What kinds of new practices are appearing on the horizon and what kind of answers are they offering? What kind of institutions are needed? How does audience prefer culture to be organized? \nRegister here (registration deadline 10/9/2020) \n\n\n\n14:00 – 15:15\nPanel session\n\n\n15:20 – 16:20\nWorklab session\n\n\n16:30 – 17:00\nWrap-up & Conclusions

SUMMARY:European Conference · 2nd episode: "A new vision for culture? Integrity\, direction and relevance"
DESCRIPTION:Panellists: Sajida Carr\, Arjo Klamer\, Francois Matarasso\, Deise Faria Nunes\, Goran Tomka\, Ana Žuvela.\nChair: Macarena Cuenca.\nModerators: Sajida Carr\, Philipp Dietachmair\, Francois Matarasso\, Davor Mišković\, Lana Pavlović Aleksić. \nSome of our cultural institutions are already centuries old. But today’s arts and cultural scene has widened to embrace multitudes. Film\, design\, comics\, graffiti\, photography\, jazz\, and many other forms of vernacular and popular culture represented a dramatic expansion of what culture means to our societies\, amid shifting political\, economic\, social and technological landscapes. Yet even in today’s digitally connected world\, the logic behind private and public funding supporting the production and display of cultural artefacts and art forms is still largely connected to institutional gatekeepers. On the other hand\, many institutions feel the pressure to reach larger numbers of people\, influenced by market forces to increase their income at the expense of producing work with less obvious popular appeal. This session looks at whether there is a balance to be struck\, dealing at the same time with concepts of popularism\, elitism\, inequality and democracy. \nRegister here (registration deadline 3/9/2020) \n\n\n\n14:00 – 15:15\nPanel session\n\n\n15:20 – 16:20\nLongTable discussion\n\n\n16:30 – 17:00\nWrap-up & Conclusions

SUMMARY:European Conference 2020 · 1st episode: "Culture's place in our lives"
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the COVID19 outbreak\, half of the world’s population has been on lockdown. Cancelled fairs\, festivals and concerts\, closed clubs and shut-down theatres: we were all affected. Yet\, in a time of desolation and deprivation\, we have once again invited culture into our homes. Watching streaming series and movies\, listening to music\, reading books\, we have suddenly become painfully aware of the extraordinary meaning culture has in our lives. Overnight\, we were able to watch theatre performances from our couches\, browse through galleries and virtual exhibitions\, listen to live online concerts. What is happening\, and what is going to happen under the rule of social distancing? In this new light\, it seems important to put forth once more the need for culture\, its relevance\, its accessibility and the conditions under which this access is provided. And to keep in mind the millions without access to it\, asking ourselves how we can overcome these obstacles. \nNicolas Barbieri\, Mafalda Damaso and Anne Torreggiani will be the panelists for this session with the coordination of Alessandra Gariboldi. In addition\, Valentina Montalto\, Jordi Pascual and Lene Struck-Madsen will be the long table moderators. \nRegister here (registration deadline 27/8/2020) \n\n\n\n\n14:00 – 15:15 \n\nPanel session\n\n\n\n15:20 – 16:20 \n\nLongTable discussion\n\n\n\n16:30 – 17:00 \n\nWrap-up & Conclusions\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Adeste+ Pre-conference: "Culture and public at a turning point"
DESCRIPTION:Opening Conference with Eleonora Belfiore\, Giuliana Ciancio\, Niels Righolt & Pier Luigi Sacco.  \nAdeste+ invites you to watch an interesting online conference that focuses on the current challenges for arts- and cultural institutions and their audiences. We explored the latest perspectives on concepts of cultural democracy and audience development and looked at its relevance for organizations. Niels Righolt moderated the conversation with Eleonora Belfiore\, Giuliana Ciancio and Pier Luigi Sacco. \nIn this first session\, we previewed some of the key themes to be discussed during the online conference sessions. Prompted by our present crisis\, we turn to some fundamental questions related to the place of audience (public\, visitor\, participant\, user) in the future of the cultural sector. We explore the latest perspectives on concepts of cultural democracy and audience development and look at its relevance for organizations. At a wider level\, these sessions investigate what has or has not changed as a result of the crisis in terms of public engagement. Has it affected democratic norms? Or revealed their deeper structural fragilities? Who is / is not involved / engaged and what relevance does culture have for our world today? What needs to change and what is our responsibility as cultural professionals? \nYou can see the panel debate in our Vimeo channel.
