Case Studies and Work Groups “Meet the Adeste+ Artistic Parterns: From the first kiss to getting the key – 6 different ways of approaching audience engagement”

TEATRO STABILE TORINO with Lorenzo Barello and LA HARINERA and ZARAGOZA CULTURAL with Diego Garulo.

Teatro Stabile Torino

During the last ten years the Teatro Stabile of Torino – a 64 years old institution – has started a long and articulated renovation of the relationship with its audience, reaching a long list of meaningful goals, that progressively made it to be the first italian national theatre. Nevertheless, in the last few years it seemed clear that we had to move further, putting aside our confortable success, as the deal on the table was about evolution (a long, slow, delicate and peculiar process) – not revolution. A challenge that looks even harder if you consider how wide is the age range of our spectators and how strong is the ritual that defines the theatrical experience of some of them. So, following up the evocative title of this working session, we can say that this chapter tells a story about a long-lasting love that is now evolving and renewing: how would you give the first kiss to your wife, again?

La Harinera – Zaragoza Cultural

“Active audience”. The meaning of the word when most cultural policies are dealing with culture as a market.

If we really want to give people the opportunity to take part in the decisions of the public institutions, to design more participatory cultural policies (and we’re not just trying to sell more tickets, more books or whatever), we have very good word to noun them, much better than audience: community.
